Co. Fermanagh native makes bid for Boston City Council

When Liz Breadon left her home in County Fermanagh in the 1990s to come to the states, she never expected the move to be permanent. But the community she poured her efforts into made Allston-Brighton a home. Now, she’s hoping to represent her neighborhood on the Boston City Council.

Irish heritage comes with an undeniably rich history, but approaching that history and seeking to understand thousands of years of conflict and resilience on the Emerald Isle can be a daunting task.
That’s where Sean Murphy comes in.
“Quite a lot of people have a vague knowledge of when their ancestors arrived, and they have a lot of the questions to try and clarify what was happening in Ireland at the time that might have caused them to leave,” Murphy said.

It takes some effort to knock the All-Ireland hurling finals off the front pages of newspapers in the Republic of Ireland. Sports-crazed Bostonians have nothing on their Irish cousins, who live and die by the fortunes of their county amateur teams.
