There are bands – whether Irish, pan-Celtic, rock-n-roll, jazz, pop, funk, death-metal, or any other genre – that come together by circumstance or by accident, or even just for laughs.
Our friends and neighbors in South Boston have grown accustomed to disruptions and some measure of bad behavior from the hundreds of thousands of people who descend on “the town” each year for the St. Patrick’s Day-themed parade through their streets.
But, in the aftermath of this year’s events, there’s a growing sentiment that the parade – along with the throngs of people that it attracts – has become more than just a nuisance. It’s a public safety hazard.
A 37-year-old Dublin man visiting Boston for the St. Patrick's Day weekend with other members of the Dublin Fire Brigade has been charged with raping a woman at a downtown hotel last Friday. Terrence Crosbie was ordered held on $100,000 bail in a Boston courtroom. Prosecutors say he was arrested on Saturday evening as he attempted to fly home to Ireland after he was interviewed about the incident by police on Saturday.
