Remembering An Gorta Mór- the Irish Famine
On Sunday May 16 from 12:00P.M.-12:05P.M., wherever you are take the
time to pause and reflect. in union with the Irish people around the
world in remembrance of An Gorta Mór
On Sunday May 23 from 2:00P.M. at the Boston Famine Memorial, there
will be a remembrance of those who suffered during this tragic time
in Ireland,. with prayers offered by Father Peter Nolan.
On Tuesday May 25 there will be a brief observance at the Memorial
from 1pm - 1.30P.M. This will begin with Máirín Úí Chéide performing
a traditional Irish (or Seanós) song. Gary Whitedeer, Mary Pat Kelly
and Maureen Murphy will each briefly speak about the Irish Famine,
followed by a minute of silence.
Boston's Irish Famine Memorial is situated near Downtown Crossing, at
the corner of Washington and School streets, All are welcome
On Tuesday evening, May 25 a Commemoration of the Great Irish Famine
& Choctaw is planned at 5.30P.M. at the Boston Public Librar, 700
Boylston Street, Copley Square. This event will begin with a
screening of "The Great Irish Famine: Remember Skibbereen" (by
Harvest Films) followed by a performance by seanós singeMáirín Úí
Chéide, An open panel discussion, led by Irish film producer Peter
J. McCarthy of Good Dog Films, will include Gary White Deer, Choctaw
Nation, Professor Maureen Murphy, Hofstra University and Mary Pat
Kelly, author of 'Galway Bay'.
