Trad band Ishna to perform at the Burren May 27

Contemporary Irish folk band Ishna will celebrate the release of their debut album, Slí Amach: Way Out, with special live performances as part of the The Burren  Backroom Legacy Series on May 27, 2026 at 7:30 PM at The Burreen 247 Elm Street, Somerville MA.  They will also be presented by The Monadnock Folklore Society on May 29th at 7:30 pm at Nelson Town Hall, 7 Nelson Common Road, Nelson NH.

Blending traditional Irish repertoire with global influences, Ishna brings together the diverse musical backgrounds of its members to create fresh, dynamic arrangements. Their sound bridges past and present, offering audiences a vibrant and modern take on Irish folk music.

The May 27th performance takes place at The Burren, the renowned Irish music venue long associated with the late broadcaster Brian O’Donovan, host of WGBH’s A Celtic Sojourn. O’Donovan was instrumental in promoting Irish music in the U.S. through the Burren Backroom Series, a legacy that continues today through the Burren Backroom Legacy Series. Ishna is honored to debut their album as part of this celebrated tradition.

The May 29th performance is put on by The Monadnock Folklore Society whose purpose is to increase the visibility of folk music events in southern New Hampshire, providing venues for performers, and providing educational services in the folk arts to the community. Their concerts are presented in the Nelson Town Hall, where a wide range of musical and cultural traditions are represented.

Slí Amach: Way Out takes listeners on a rich musical journey—from a darkly humorous opening ballad to lively instrumental sets, poignant airs, and spirited rebel songs—ultimately evoking the warmth and familiarity of an Irish pub session. The album showcases Ishna’s distinctive voice: energetic, expressive, and rooted in tradition while embracing innovation.
