Yeats exhibition program, tours, and reception

Sunday, May 3

2pm - 5pm

McMullen Museum of Art

Boston College

Join fellow members of the greater Boston Irish community for a special afternoon program and curator-led tours of McMullen Museum’s spring exhibition, “Collaborating in Conflict: The Yeats Family and the Public Art.” Open to all, the event will include complimentary food and drink.

The exhibition includes more than 200 works by three generations of Yeats family artists from premier public and private collections in Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the United States. It features many recent acquisitions by Boston College’s John J. Burns Library and McMullen Museum, including paintings by Jack B. Yeats and a remarkable series of Stations of the Cross embroidered by Lily Yeats, never before shown publicly.

A special presentation by Marty Fahey, curator of The O’Brien Collection, at 2:30pm will focus on five paintings by Jack B. Yeats from the O’Brien collection and how they represent his development as an artist between 1914-1949. Beginning at 3:30pm, Fahey and exhibition co-curators Majorie Howes, Diana Larsen, and Christian Dupont, will offer guided tours of the exhibition.

This free event, open to the public, is sponsored by the Charitable Irish Society and Éire Society of Boston with additional support from Tom Carty and Trisha Griffin-Carty and John J. Burns Library.

RSVPs appreciated.

McMullen Museum is fully accessible and offers free parking in adjacent areas. Use “2101 Commonwealth Avenue Boston” for GPS and rideshare directions. The museum entrance is a 6-minute walk from the MBTA Green Line (B) terminal station at Lake St.
